Sustainability Program

"WE CAN!" - The Port of Vancouver formalizes sustainability efforts. We Can logo

The Port of Vancouver is putting its actions into words as we begin formalizing our sustainability efforts. Dubbed the "We Can!" project, the port began by taking stock of what has already been accomplished and we are looking forward toward measurable, consistent changes to improve upon the programs already in place.

The Port of Vancouver is committed to the health of the economy, our community and the environment. The concept of sustainability is not new to the port. While terms may evolve, our commitment to responsible resource use, protection of the environment, and making business decisions that recognize the balance between the decisions we make today and the consequences those decisions will have on the future have been in place for years. The port’s mission statement is to provide economic benefit to our community through leadership, stewardship and partnership in marine and industrial development. This defines our commitment to sustainability.

As a sustainable port, we look at our operations in an all-inclusive manner, enhancing our profitability while existing responsibly within our larger community. We have created a sustainability plan with the goal to meet today’s global economic, environmental, and social needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. The port's internal sustainability team works on creating goals for each calendar year that identify areas of improvement for port operations. Efforts will be tracked and reported at the conclusion of each calendar year.
