Strategic Plan
Mission Statement
The port's mission is to provide economic benefit to our community through leadership, stewardship and partnership in marine and industrial development.
Vision 2009
The port's 2009-2018 Strategic Plan
The Port of Vancouver USA, is a dynamic marine and industrial port on the Columbia River, participating actively in providing trade access to the global marketplace. Strategically located in a region of robust economic growth, we are a gateway to North America, the Pacific Rim and the rest of the world. Both marine and industrial activities provide economic benefits to the Pacific Northwest region contributing to significant family wage employment and tax revenues.
Transportation
River, road and rail transportation is established as a regional priority with the port's immediate access to an improved shipping channel, transcontinental railroads, interstate highway corridors and an international airport.
Facilities
All port facilities are improved and well maintained, attributing to a strong reputation for excellence with customers, tenants and key stakeholders. Over the last five years, the port has invested over $80 million for infrastructure, facilities and environmental improvements. Strategic alliances and coordinated marketing strategies result in the retention of existing business and development of new partnerships.
Future development
The West Vancouver Freight Access project will create a state-of-the-art Unit Train facility at the Port of Vancouver USA and increase capacity for rail freight flowing through the port and along the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific mainlines that connect the Pacific Northwest to major rail hubs in Chicago and Houston and from Canada to Mexico. The WVFA project includes construction of a new dual carrier rail access into port property and enhancement of the port’s internal rail system to serve growth for existing operations and future development.
Currently, the Port of Vancouver operates over 16.9 miles of rail track. With the completion of the WVFA project, the port will operate on more than 44.0 miles of rail to serve its present and future customers and tenants.
Administration
The port's accomplishments are realized by responsible financial management of our resources and physical assets. Our customers and community view us as innovative, service oriented and fiscally sound. The port staff is positive and motivated, demonstrating commitment and pride in their accomplishments. The port's positive image is strengthened through effective communication to our various audiences in the local and international markets.
The Port of Vancouver USA, is an integral organization in this globalized market. With these key factors in place, we are poised to face new challenges and opportunities.
